I agree with Paul that we should leave more events until the end of April at the earliest.

I think that the two weeks around the AGM (12th May) would be a good opportunity to get lots of events in. i.e. Calum Douglas, more Ian Crane, Annie Machon, David Shayler, Tony Gosling (bilderberg), film shows of various subjects, an Egokillers truth gig?

Since these people will becoming up anyway it makes sense to have them do more than just sit in the AGM for a few hours then drink beer!

Once we have our venues booked we could also possibly encourage other campaigns and organisations to hold events/talks during that period and promote it all under a generic "Leeds Truth Festival" banner...

Hmmm - I just answered this on the other thread. My comment

Excellent idea, Ants. A pretty big proposal and really needs setting up in the very near future, and a good deal of commitment, not only to get places booked, but a lot of hassling, contact making and PR work
If we were to go for this we would need to agree it's going to happen soon. If Andy's Cardigan Centre meeting brings a result with even a few committed Leeds-based people, that would be a tremendous help.
If there's some agreement, the subject also deserves its own thread, I think.......

And here it is

Yes, a great idea. I think the week night events will be not too much trouble but the thing on the Saturday will require a lot of organisation if we are to involve as many other groups NO2ID, STW, etc... to come and have stalls etc...

Venues will be the main constraint so we need to be making enquiriesn soon. My personal choice for the Saturday event would be the West Ward Liberal club, where they hold Raise the Roof. Chances are it will be booked up but i'll check.  I'll also contact Simon for anything he can add.

Very good venue if it's available

Ian Crane has expressed his interest in speaking in Leeds for the Leeds Truth Festival.

I'll get in touch with the other various groups to ask people about there availability.

The AGM date is 12th May. The proposed festival would run from 7th - 13th May. Detailed planning will be discussed in the private forum. Anyone not able to access that forum please leave your suggestions here. Useful comments would of course be likely to open access to the Private forum

Sounds good guys, I know of a copule of acts that have already expressed an interest in doing a set if we'd like them. Bit of a singer-songwriter and another 'electronica' producer - both with strong political leanings in amongst their work, I vouch for both. Let me know if I should confirm with them. Be good to have an Egokiller set too.

I like the West Ward, nice place, never knew it existed til the last Raise the Roof.

Have you heard of Mosaic.
Its about 15pounds to book. There may well be lots of people there. In the centre of Leeds. You have to have some handmade or fair trade goods on your stall though, which I could provide....

Also another one is artienda. Lots of browsers, more laidback.

I have said it before but I will say it again. Get some leaflets together and I will help distribute them to the commuters one morning/afternoon. We could incorporate the free hugs idea too.
