I think I'm going to register for this event next Thursday evening which takes place in what ought to be really fertile territory.
Other than Marcus who's in Todmorden, our contacts in Calderdale seem essentially out of contact.
See

Anyone want to come along

Looks good dh, think I've the eve free so I'll try to make it along with you - I'll check and get back to you about it. Will you be back this way in the eve or will you stop there?

Will you be doing a 3 min presentation of our 'business'? If so it may be best to promote us first and foremost as an anti-war, no2ID, Police State thing, as well as all the 9/11 stuff and beyond. Would probably attract more, what do you think?

Think I can mangage 3 mins. Shouldn't take too much thinking about given that my nervous stammering and mumbling should take up about a third of the time

Well that wasn't too bad was it Mowly. I felt we were a bit like urban wasters amongst an ethically and environmentally purist bunch of PC reformed hippies. Still there was no aggravation, the people were ok, the buffet was ok, perhaps a few seeds were planted here and there. What strikes me is how dumb such highly intelligent people can be. Like the guy who was like 'oh wow, is that Loose Change?' - sure take a copy - 'Oh thanks' like it was some rare artifact. Ferchrissakes they have some community broadband facility in Hebden. What do these people do with it?
Anyway, I'll go again next time and make sure I get a well-prepared 3 minutes mike time

Anyway, I ought really to move this, but instead I'll try and think up some brainstormin' ideas to add to this section

Pity we didn't get our 3 minutes, what with all the other fairly useless guff (apart from the car-sharers and the straw-bail-builders) I think a little talk of what we are trying to promote would really make people listen, or at least give them something useful to sink their teeth into. At least we could really get away with saying we were entirely ethical anyway - perhaps the most in the room. It does seem to manifest itself as a bit of a competition at times all that ethical living business.

Sounds like it was OK. I agree with dh on web ignorance.  Sorry I couldn't be there.

I don like to generalise too much but again hebden Bridge is a little world within a world.
People are fluffy and friendly but ignorance is bliss for many of them. There have been some nineleven stickers along the canal, but many of these have been torn down now.
I think they only use the internet to look for some pine cushions from Ikea, etc....
