It would appear members of the public are no longer prepared to pass by, on the other side, when they see innocent people harassed and intimidated by heavy-handed police for petty ‘offences.’ When a girl was confronted by two officers for dropping a piece of litter,  they soon found themselves confronting all the shoppers on the High Street in Croydon. A throng of about thirty concerned individuals quickly turned into an ugly mob who were prepared to administer their own ‘street justice.’

While I do not advocate violence and I’m glad the officers were not seriously hurt, or worse, perhaps they will think twice before enforcing trivial and Draconian measures on behalf of politicians. The response in the media was that these ‘feral youths’ have no respect for the law or police. I wonder why? Perhaps because the ‘law’ and police have no respect for us and we resent being nano-controlled by a warring government who is out of control.

They drop cluster bombs, thermobaric bombs, depleted uranium and micro-nukes on defenceless civilians, but we are prohibited from dropping PAPER, to protect the environment. Various comments in the gutter press suggested this unruly mob should be ‘put in stocks, castrated, kicked by thirty policemen or forced to do a million hours community service.’ The government will suggest National Service. But I feel their reaction was instinctive in the circumstances and should be applauded.

I hate it when people drop litter on the streets, nonetheless, you make an excellent point !!!

I couldn't care less about 'litter louts' when there are far more pressing concerns in the world, like starvation and genocide, and if we didn't drop the occassional bit of rubbish, road sweepers would be redundant.

If there were no crime Police officers would also be redundant.

I remember the street sweeper in York, who wore the following badge, “When the floor is full, please use the bins !!”
