| Author : | Topic: Set up and sign petitions, direct on the PM's website | Bottom |
| TRUTH Posts : 46 |
For generations campaigners have trooped to Downing Street to deliver petitions urging the government to take action on a host of causes - now they will be able to send a message to the prime minister at the click of a mouse. A new e-petitions service allows citizens, charities and campaign groups to set up and sign petitions, direct on the PM's website . A Downing Street spokesman explained: "The new service is essentially the same as the traditional paper petitions that have been collected and delivered by post or hand to 10 Downing Street for generations, but online. This gives petitioners the ability to spread their petitions in new ways, and potentially reach much larger or more widely spread audiences. It also makes it much more economically feasible for the PM or the government to respond to signers of petitions than it was when each reply required separate postage and envelopes." Number 10 stressed the online service did not replace paper petitions but was simply another channel. "We do, however, ask petitioners to make sure that their signers are aware that signing an identical paper and electronic petition will not count twice." The petition site was built as an open source project for Number 10 by mySociety, an organisation that is strictly neutral on party political issues. The most recent petitions on the e-petitions site urge Tony Blair to: · champion the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, by not replacing the Trident nuclear weapons system; · create a new exception to copyright law that gives individuals the right to create a private copy of copyrighted materials for their own personal use, including back-ups, archiving and shifting format; and· levy a tax on energy inefficient light bulbs so that their long term financial and environmental cost is visible in their retail price. http://society.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,1946884,00.html http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ |

Not much. I see the repeal the human rights act is the top petition. How come no body has set up a reinvestigate 9/11 7/7 petition yet?

Nice work, I signed. We need a load more peeps to sign it. Let's spread the word and don't forget to drop URLs where possible. Dropping URLs is crucial to our cause guys, I drop URLs everywhere as even the thought of 1 Sheeple realizing we're all being conned makes it all worthwhile. --Last edited by wakeywakey on 2006-11-21 00:29:43 --

It seems to me petitions are all so pointless. people are forever handing in petitions to Downing Street and they just ignore them. A million people on the streets of London protesting the Iraq war were just ignored. Now hwat if those people had all just sat down in the West End and along Whitehall and just refused to go home? They did it in Ukraine and a few other places. Mind you they had the support of Sorus and his millions. We will change nothing by voting and handing in peteitions. We really have to get out there in the streets and stay out there. It won't happen until all the bread and circuses are taken away though! |

! You are quite right - only a handful will conform to this civil disobedience. All rest are in comfort zones. But I still like the idea of a good protest - at least our voices are heard, but not listened to! --Last edited by Riaz A on 2006-11-21 13:04:24 --

That is actually very true, but for the amount of time it takes it is always worth trying. Everything is worth a try, I agree direct action is always the most effective of course, Blair needs a kick up the arse. As for Boring c*nt Brown looking favourate to take over from Blair, life is not going to get any better that's for sure.

Doubt if it will arrive online. Worth a try though |

I tried to post a petition re calling for a full and open public investigation into the events of 7/7 but it was rejected on the grounds that it duplicated an existing petition. I observed many duplicated or similar petitions on other themes, such as Fox Hunting, Trident etc |

That doesn't surprise me at all. 7/7 was never properly investigated.

Just signed that petition on 9/11 Truth, my fingered hovered for a second above the send button, especially after asking for an address - but if they don't have all that info already our 'intelligence' agencies really are as incompetant as the 9/11 Commission Report makes America's out to be. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/9-11-Truth/ |
